Cards, Father's Day, Techniques & Tips

Sailing Home

Sailing Home is a great stamp for the nautical enthusiast. It has some great images including a lighthouse which caught my attention right away. Because I love lighthouses and visiting them, I knew it was a must have for me. The Sailing Home set, just like A Good Man from yesterday’s post, is also a carry over from last year’s catalog. It coordinates with the Smooth Sailing Dies so that sure takes the work out of fussy cutting your images.

I chose to use the sentiment from A Good Man stamp set and wanted it to pop so I embossed with white embossing powder on black cardstock and then trimmed it – love, love this look!

A Different Type of Retiform Technique

Sailing Home

For my second card, I did a lot of sponging to create this look. With the retiform technique, you do a lot of angles, but I chose to keep it straight. All you need to do is take a piece of scrap paper and cover each section while sponging. As you hold the scrap paper in place, sponge a bit harder against the paper edge to create the defined lines. I made a monochromatic card – which means I kept everything within the same color scheme. I used Sahara Sand ink to sponge and then stamped all the images with Early Espresso ink.

If you’re planning to make a Father’s Day card, how are you coming along? I hope I have inspired you with these cards. Come back tomorrow for another Father’s Day card. Although I’ve been focusing on Father’s Day, remember you can easily change it to any occasion you like.
