Country Livin’ Barn Door

barn door, country livin'For many people creating masculine cards is a struggle. I admit that making cards for women and kids is much easier, but masculine cards don’t have to be too much of a challenge, either. All you need is masculine colors and you can create a simple card just layering different ‘masculine’ colors and a sentiment. You can also choose a stamp set that just screams masculine as the Country Livin’ Stamp set and Barn Door. I combined these two sets to create a nice masculine card. Once again, I added some Brusho Crystal Colors – a little bit of the yellow, orange and green. The top part of my card I sprinkled and left it alone but the bottom part I used my Aqua Painter to spread the Brusho.

I used the Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blends for the boots and then fuzzy cut (that’s another word for cutting the image with scissors instead of dies.)

Want to see another card with Brusho? Click here. Have you tried them yet? They’re addictive, in a good way because it’s fun, but watch out because once you use it you want to make every background with Brusho!

Jar of Love Birthday

Jar of Love, Touches of Texture

The Occasions catalog has some great products, but let’s not forget the 2017-2018 Annual Catalog does, too. So for today’s card let’s look at a card using Jar of Love and Touches of Texture – both sets from the Annual Catalog. I made this card back in November 2016 but hadn’t posted it yet. All the products that I used are still current with the exception of the sentiment which was from the Watercolor Wishes Card Kit and the Mossy Meadow ink that I used for the leaves, but you can easily interchange those two things with something you have already own.

The border was made with one of the images from the Touches of Texture stamped on all sides of the card. I like using stamps that give your card instant texture and this is definitely one of those stamps. The smaller jar from the Everyday jar framelits was used for this card stamped on Sahara Sand cardstock with the ribbon stamped with Blushing Bride ink. I’m not sure if you can see the Wink of Stella used on the Blushing Bride flowers, but it’s there and gives it a nice subtle shine.

Although some stamps are specifically made for background and texture, did you know you could use any stamp to create your own background? Simply stamp whatever image or sentiment you want repeatedly and create your own unique background or patterned paper. If you’re stamping floral images, then simply add a sentiment. Try using your stamps in different ways and you’ll be surprised at what you can create.

Brusho, Stylized Birthday And Daisy Delight

Daisy Delight & Stylized Birthday

One of my favorite products from the Occasions Catalog is the Brusho Crystal Colours on page 26. It comes in a box with 5 containers of Brilliant Red, Gamboge (orange), Moss Green, Prussian Blue and Yellow. They’re not Stampin’ Up! colors but match well with the colors. If you’re wondering what is Brusho? Wonder no more… It’s watercolor ink crystals that when you mix it with water it creates watercolor washes and designs. The secret to this product is water!! There are several ways to use this product. Check out this video to see it in action. You may have seen it already in an earlier post, but here it is again just in case you didn’t.

Here’s what I did for my card . . .Using the Emboss Resist technique, I embossed the Stylized Birthday sentiment with White Embossing Powder and heat set it with my heating tool. I then brushed water with my Aqua Painter onto the entire Watercolor paper. I sprinkled some of the blue, green and yellow crystals and spread it a little with my Aqua Painter. I also sprinkled a little of the yellow and blue and left it as is to create the dots on the card. Once I was satisfied with the way it looked, I  stamped two daisies from the Daisy Delight stamp set and embossed them with White Embossing Powder onto Vellum, punched them out and adhered them with a Stampin’ Dimensional. For the center of the daisy, I added the gold faceted gem – another one of my favorite embellishments. I love the this card and the way it came out!

Here are a few more tips when using the Brusho:

  • make sure to put a mat or something else underneath your cardstock to avoid getting the Brusho on your table.
  • Avoid getting any of the Brusho underneath the cardstock or getting very warped when wet, by taping it down before you spritz and sprinkle the colors.
  • Keep the container hole plugged when not in use
  • Use strong glue on your cardstock (like Fast Fuse, Multipurpose Liquid Glue) when adhering so that it will not lift from your card base.

Try different ways of using this product and have fun creating your one of a kind cards!

Blossoming Basket

Blossoming Basket

I received this Sale-A-Bration Blossoming Basket Bundle yesterday and quickly created a card. I wanted to play around with the embossing folder – I love the basket weave look. The basket with flowers is also a nice set. Since I didn’t want to cover the embossing folder, I kept the card simple and fuzzy cut the basket. The basket image was colored with the Stampin’ Blends and if you like coloring, I do recommend you get these alcohol pens. They color so smoothly.

The Blossoming Basket and Basket Weave Embossing Folder are offered as a bundle in the Sale-A-Bration catalog if you spend $100. There are two other items being offered with this 2nd Sale-A-Bration release if you spend $50. Make sure to check it out. Valentine Party Panda

Happy Belated Valentine’s Day! Hope you had a great time celebrating in whatever way it was special to you.

Panda Party

For today’s card, I’m using the Party Panda stamp from the Sale-A-Bration catalog which has become a very popular set.

I made a smaller card than usual which measures at 2-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ – makes a perfect size Valentine’s Day or Just Because card. I used the watermark image from the Sunshine Sayings for the background, the heart from the Jars of Love set. I die cut ‘love’ from the Sunshine Wishes thinlits and fuzzy cut the panda to pop him up as if standing on top of love. So cute!

The popular Party Pandas set is available when you purchase $50 (before shipping and tax). Speaking of Sale-A-Bration, starting tomorrow there will be 3 new items added to the Sale-A-Bration catalog that you can get with either a $50 purchase or $100 purchase. Come back tomorrow and check it out.

Stylized Birthday

Sheet Music, Stylized Birthday

I haven’t posted a lot since June 2017, so I have a lot of catching up to do in showing you the cards I’ve created since then. Some will have retired products that you may have already and some will be current. Sometimes everyday life doesn’t allow you to do everything, (don’t you wish you could?) but I’ve learned that’s okay. You just need to let go of some things and concentrate on what matters the most and to me that’s investing in my family and leaving behind a legacy that involves a love for God and His work and a love for the growing family He’s blessed me with.

Though I love spending time with my family, I also need a little time alone to create because it energizes me and brings me pleasure when I can make cards for my family and friends and share with you. Doesn’t it feel good when you can just carve out a little time for yourself and do something creative? So for today’s card, it’s a birthday card I made back in June using the Music Sheet background stamp. The Stylized Birthday stamp is a nice script stamp that creates a wonderful focal point.

To make this card, all I did was stamp the music image on Island Indigo and Garden Green cardstock, stamp the sentiment in the middle – all with Archival Black and then stamped the balloon with Lemon Lime Twist and Island Indigo and popped it with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Now you have a quick and simple card ready to make someone happy when they receive it.

All these products can be found in the 2017-2018 Occasions catalog.

Friendship’s Sweetest Thoughts

Friendship's Sweetest Thoughts

Happy New Year!

The 2018 Occasions catalog went live today and is full of fun and interactive products for any occasion.

Today I want to share with you a card created with Friendship’s Sweetest Thoughts  – a sweet new set that can be used in different ways. I kept my card clean and simple with only one layer. I wanted to use the delicate swirl image to create a border and was able to do it by stamping the top and bottom twice and the sides once. The flower pots are so cute and dainty. I colored the flowers and pots with Stampin’ Write Markers. This card goes to show that you don’t always need a lot of supplies and you don’t always need to layer it to create a quick and pretty card.

The Friendship’s Sweetest Thoughts set can be found on page 34 of the catalog.

In addition to the Occasions catalog it is also Sale-A-bration time! That means for every $50 you spend, you get a FREE item from the Sale-A-Bration catalog. This year, there are two FREE items you can get if you spend $100. So for $100 you have your choice of 2 FREE items or one item. One of the $100 category items is a set of 3 Thinlits dies which also coordinates with the Amazing You free stamp set. Sale-A-Bration runs through March 31.

Daisy Delight in the Fall

Daisy DelightThis time of year here in New Jersey is pretty but messy with all the beautiful colored leaves. I made this back in September for my hostess who wanted a fall-themed workshop. I used the Daisy Delight stamp and punch.

The first thing you will need to make this arrangement is the daisy punch. You can choose whether to stamp them with the Daisy Delight stamp set or just punch different colored cardstock. At first I was going to go with just the cardstock but decided to stamp and oh, I liked that much better. It’s really a matter of preference.

You will also need glue (I used a glue gun), green cloth flower stems, whatever extra things you want to add to your arrangement, moss for the inside filler and a mason jar. I happened to find a small orange jar which was perfect.

Daisy Delight

I punched 3 daisies for each flower. I put 2 punched flowers together alternating the petals then twisted a small section on the top of the stem so it would lie flat on the flower; glued and then adhered the third flower over the twisted portion of stem. I did add a touch of glitter to the centers with the Wink of Stella glitter pen. Tied some jute twine around the jar and added a label with one of the sentiments from the Ribbon of Courage. Once your flowers are done, cut some of the stems to create different heights. You can make your arrangement as full as you like.

Daisy Delight

I also made a matching card to go along with the flower arrangement. I used the Pinewood Planks Embossing Folder, then added my flowers and once again tied a bow with the twine.

Because I love daisies of all kinds, and loved how this turned out, I made one for myself which adorns my diningroom window with all my other fall decorations. Would make a great Thanksgiving table centerpiece – don’t you think?

Count My Blessings

Count My BlessingsMiss me? My last post was in June and some of you have been wondering where I’ve been. Well, this has been an extremely busy summer which has extended into September and October – family and church activities, another precious grandson born, vacation, a couple of classes and workshops and of course, just everyday life. In spite of the busyness, I have a few projects to share with you.

Today’s card features Count My Blessings, a cute set from the Holiday Catalog. Did you notice the nice glittery texture behind the flower? It’s not an embossing folder, but it’s embossing paste used over one of the party patterned decorative masks sprinkled with Dazzling Diamonds glitter.

Have you tried the embossing paste yet? Check out this video and see what else you can do with this paste. You can use it with framelits. Spread some embossing paste inside the framelit, let it dry then run it through the big shot and you’ll get a nice textured image. When applying glitter, sprinkle it over the paste while it’s still wet. One thing you’ll want to remember is to clean your palette knives right after you use them.

With all the different ways you can use this embossing paste, you’ll definitely want to get your hands on this paste. So what do you think?

Sweet Baby

Moon Baby, Hardwood

Today’s card was made with several stamp sets – Moon Baby for the inside sentiment, bunny and teddy bear, Hardwood for the crib and dresser, and 3 retired stamps –  Zoo Babies for the zebra and giraffe, Baby We’ve Grown for “Sweet Baby”, and A Slice of Life for the pjs.

I made this card for my daughter-in-law’s baby shower wanting to create the crib and dresser as close in color and design to the one she was getting for the baby. The card folds nicely as the crib bends to one side. Because I didn’t want to take away from the ‘nursery’ look of the card, I adhered a piece of card stock to the back of the card and wrote my note to her. I love it when you’re able to create exactly what you had in mind. Don’t the drawers look like you can just pull them out with the knob? So many things you can create with paper!

The card is a little larger than my usual cards so I created an envelope with the envelope punch board.

Which is your favorite – the crib or dresser? Leave me a comment below.

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, Moon Baby

Moon Baby

The Moon Baby set is adorable. It was one of my favorite baby stamps in the Occasions Catalog and I’m glad it carried over to the new annual catalog. You can use it to welcome a new baby, a baby shower, or when you’re scrapbooking your precious one. Speaking of precious, I have another sweet grandson who is almost 2 weeks old, so how can I not help but think of babies!

I made this card back in May so the Mint Macaron ribbon and cardstock are retired, but thought I would share it with you anyway since the ribbon and cardstock can always be changed to another color. I cut out the moon baby image and adhered it with a couple of Stampin’ Dimensionals. To give the moon some depth, I outlined it with the Smoky Slate marker.

Moon Baby

I stamped the inside with these cute little images and colored it with the blender pen.

“Twinkle, twinkle, little star . . . do you know how loved you are?” That’s how I feel about my 3 little grandsons – they are so loved and I am so blessed!

Next time, I’ll be sharing another baby card that I made back in May.

Nailed It and Build It

Nailed It

Here’s another Father’s Day card, which like I said in my last post you can make it into any occasion masculine card or save it in a file for next year. I debated whether to post this card since everything but the Wood Texture Designer Series Paper is retired and you can’t get it now, but I decided to since some of you already have the Nailed It and Build It Framelits and this card could give you a new way of using it.

Nailed It

This is a perfect card for that handyman / carpenter in your life. I used the side step card fold to create this card. I still had some Brushed Silver cardstock that Stampin’ Up! sold years ago so I used it for the tools for a more realistic look, but if you don’t have any, you can use Smoky Slate cardstock. To write your sentiment on this type of fold, you can write on the back of the card.

What do you think of this card? Let me know by leaving me a comment below.

Out In The Woods With Lovely As A Tree

Lovely As A Tree, Colorful Seasons

Yes, another Father’s Day card…just think masculine card ideas. I was up very late Saturday night trying to make my Father’s Day cards but ran out of time to make all the ones I wanted to make for the special men in my life. I had to keep it simple, if I wanted to make any at all.

The Lovely As A Tree set is great for creating quick cards. This set has been in the catalog for a very long time, way before I joined Stampin’ Up! in 2010. It’s a much loved stamp because there are so many ways to use the images in this set. When I first got this set, it only came in wood-mount but now it’s available in clear-mount for all of you clear-mount lovers.

To create a woodsy feeling, I die cut an adirondack chair from the Seasonal Layers Thinlits using one of the sheets from the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper Stack. Of course, you have to have a drink out there, so I stamped one from the Colorful Seasons stamp set and die cut with the Seasonal Layers Thinlits. I did a little sponging, added my sentiment and it was done! I was going to pop my sentiment but forgot that I wanted to do that. That’s ok. Sometimes you just have to step away from your card and let it be.

Are you one of the many that owns Lovely As A Tree? Let me know by leaving me a comment below.

Wood Rings – Father’s Day

Wood Rings

I’m a little late with this Father’s Day card but thought I would share it anyway. To replicate, you can just switch the sentiment. The main image on this card is the new background stamp – Wood Rings. Quick and very simple and that’s exactly what I needed to make this weekend. Hope you had a nice day celebrating.

Have you seen the new background stamps on pages 164 – 165 in the catalog? When I saw them, I knew I wanted the Wood Rings, Sheet Music and Burlap to go on my first order. My next ones to get will be the Marbled and Post Script. I love background stamps because they’re so versatile. You can use them as the focal point as I did on this card. You can use them as a background to your focal point. Ink up only sections of the image you want, or cut out a section and embellish, and any other creative way you can think of.

To ink up this large stamp, you can brayer it or ink it up the usual way. The best way to ink it is by placing your stamp on your table and the ink on top that way you can make sure you have inked your stamp well. After your stamp is inked, place your cardstock on top and place some copy paper over it and just rub the entire stamp or whatever section you want. This will insure that you get a good impression on your cardstock.

What do you do with background stamps? Leave me a comment below.

Congratulations On Your New Home

At Home With You

Sorry for not posting this card yesterday, time just got away from me and wasn’t able to post it in time. But here are 2 cards using the At Home With You set. It’s an ideal set to make welcome to the neighborhood cards or to congratulate someone on their new home.

One of the nice features about the At Home Framelits is that it allows you to die cut a door opening so you’re able to stamp your message inside. It also cuts the openings for the windows on the door.

At Home With You

Just in case you’re wondering, I used the Timeless Texture stamp for the rug and the stripe image from the Work of Art set.  I used the same sunflower image for this card as I did in this post.

At Home With You

For the second card, I kept it simple and gave the house a stucco look by sponging. I kept the door closed and added a light fixture….isn’t it cute? I heat embossed the sentiment. There are many other different ways to use this set, but now that you’ve seen 3 cards, what do you think of the At Home With You set?

I have more new goodies that I need to find time to play with. As soon as I do, I’ll be sharing it with you.

Grateful – At Home With You

At Home With You

Today’s card is using a stamp from the new catalog – At Home With You. The main image of this stamp set is the door, but I decided to make a card that showcases the sunflowers so you can see that you can use this set in different ways. In the next few days, I will show you 2 other cards made with this set.

I stamped the sunflowers on the Early Espresso cardstock and embossed the Island Indigo cardstock with the Woodland Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  The image was stamped on watercolor paper, colored with an Aqua Painter and mounted onto a cardstock die cut with the Stitched Framelits. I like the grateful for you sign, and the best thing about it is that I didn’t have to cut it out with scissors because it has a coordinating die to do it for me.

This is a stamp I see myself using for Christmas; it’s also great for fall and all the other seasons, as well as congratulations on new home card, birthday and more. Along with the various sentiments, it has many nice images–it’s an all-year round set. Come back tomorrow to see another card with this set. What do you think of the At Home With You set? Leave me a comment below.
