Mothers deserve more than one day of celebration so let’s continue celebrating one more day. Today’s card features the brand new Basic Borders Dies and the catalog carry over Prized Peony and Forever Fern stamp sets.
First, let’s talk about these new Basic Border Dies. I love dies with a stitch. This set comes with six different borders. You can create clouds, different border edges and even a rainbow with the round one – just overlap with different colors. You can use the dies as a single border or use them like I did on this card. There are many possibilities on how to use these borders.
I remember when I joined Stampin’ Up! eleven years ago there was a 3 piece Mat Pack set that consisted of a square plastic template, a foam pad and a paper piercing pad. The template had spaced holes for piercing your own stitched holes to create the look of stitching. You took your paper piercer and created holes ONE. BY. ONE! They weren’t tiny holes or lines like these border dies so if you wanted it to look anything like the border on this card, you would connect the holes with a marker. I’m glad those days are over and we can have instant stitching which saves time.
Prized Peony
In this post, I used the Peony Dies to make a dimensional peony, but in today’s post I’m using dies to die cut the stamped images. I also used the Forever Flourishing Dies for all the leaves.
This stamp set is a distinktive stamp and comes with 10 cling stamps – 4 greetings and 6 images. The peonies are so pretty. The coordinating Peony Dies come with 17 dies including a pretty edge border.
The Forever Flourishing Dies is a beautiful set of 14 dies of different types of leaves. This die set coordinates with the Forever Fern distinktive cling stamp.
Card Details
For my card base, I used Crisp Cantaloupe, a retired cardstock. I could’ve used Pale Papaya or Calypso Coral but I chose this color because I was using the Basic Borders for the first time and didn’t want to use up the current colors if it didn’t go well with the borders. Does anyone else use scrap paper or old paper when trying something new? My first attempt on a card went well, and since I had already colored my peonies with Calypso Coral and it coordinated well with the retired cardstock, I decided to go with it. Not to mention that I was also tight for time to get the card finished and get it delivered.
- Finished card base is a 5″ x 5″ square card. I used a 10″ x 5″ cardstock and scored at 5″.
- The white cardstock layer is approximately 4-1/4″ x 5 and the inside layer is 4″ x 5″
- Image behind the leaves was stamped with Sahara Sand ink.
- The peonies were stamped with Calypso Coral and colored with light Calypso Coral blends and center with dark Daffodil Delight blends.
- Leaves were stamped with Old Olive ink.
- Old Olive, Pear Pizzazz, Soft Sea Foam and vellum cardstock were used to die cut the leaves.
- The peonies at the bottom of the card base were stamped with VersaMark ink.
- Mother’s Day greeting from the Timeless Tulips set was stamped with Old Olive ink.
I love the way this card turned out. What do you think of the Basic Borders? If you would like to leave me a comment, you can find the comment section next to post title.
