Organizing Your Stampin’ Up! Ink Collection

Today’s organization topic is ink pads, markers and ink refills.

If I stopped by your home and asked you to get your ink pads out and spend some stamping time together, would you know where they are? How are they being stored? Upside down, sideways, in a drawer or dare I say it . . .are they still in the same Stampin’ Up! bag or box you got when your order was delivered? (Noooooo, don’t even want to know the answer to that question!)

Why Bother Organizing Your Ink Collection?

  • You will use it more often.  If you have to look through all the bags and every area of your house to find a certain color – you just wasted precious creation time, and you know many times there’s not a lot of that with all the demands of your time.
  • You won’t make a repeat purchase. Have you ever looked and looked for something or simply forgot you purchased it and bought the item again – this won’t happen if you organize.

When I first started building my ink collection, I put them in a drawer, but I only had a few. As my collection grew, I put them in an inexpensive small crate that fit 10 ink pads. Since I was organizing by color collection and most of them have 10 colors, this worked for me. The only problem for me with that set up was that there was no separation between the ink pads so when I removed one, it would effect the position of the other ink pads. It’s really not such a big deal but it was for me.

For my ink refills, I used to store them in 2 BYGEL wire baskets from Ikea. I stored all my markers by color collection in clear-mount plastic cases and had them on top of my ink pad crates. As my ink collection continued to grow, I went in search of a holder that would hold all my pads that included dividers and something that I could combine all 3 and reduce the amount of storage space on my desk. I found one at Stamp & Storage.  Here’s my current set up for my ink pads, markers and ink refills – I absolutely love it!

So here are some tips to get you started . . .

Organizing Your Stampin’ Up! Ink Pads

  • Decide how you want to organize your colors – by color hues or by color collections
  • To quickly identify each color, peel off the label from back of ink in the language you prefer and adhere to the space right below the 3 indented dots on the front of ink pad

  • Organize ink pads in a container, drawer or several small crates facing up
  • Use an old cassette tape holder (if you inherited one)
  • Organize using the Stampin’ Up! Color Caddy which holds 48 ink pads and 48 ink refills – you can place it right on your desk
  • Organize using the storage system from Stamp & Storage

  • Punch a very small circle and adhere it with a glue dot to the top of your ink refill bottle so that you can quickly identify the color
  • Store with your ink pads so that it’s easily accessible
  • Put them in a container where you have enough room that you don’t have to stack them on top of each other
  • Use the Color Caddy or Stamp & Storage system

Organizing Your Stampin’ Write Markers

  • Place them in clear-mount plastic cases –  have a case for each of the color hues or color collections – label the side of the case to identify
  • Store them horizontally
  • Use the Stamp & Storage system

Once your ink pads, ink refills and markers are organized, you’ll waste no time looking for things and will always be ready to go.
