Want some shine on your projects? Use Shimmer Paint! It’s great for your holiday cards.
So what exactly is shimmer paint? It’s a non-toxic pigment ink with a bit of shimmer. You can stamp with it, apply it to an entire piece of cardstock, or apply it to a stamped image. Combined with the glossy white cardstock – it’s the right tool for the Faux Mother of Pearl technique. See the cards in this post and this post that uses Shimmer Paint and the technique.
Stampin’ Up! Shimmer Paint comes in 3 colors in a .5 oz. bottle:
- Champagne Mist #116806 & Frost White #116854 are translucent. It will give you a little less of a shine than glitter and images will be light.
- Platinum #116807 – is opaque and should be used as an accent color. Stamped images will be more dramatic.
Want to know how to use it? Apply a thin layer of paint to the stamp using a sponge dauber or stamping sponge and then stamp as usual. The Shimmer Paint dries quickly on cardstock. Tip: don’t put too much paint on the dauber or sponge or it will seep into the recessed areas of the stamp.
Shimmer Paint can also be used on natural fiber fabrics but unlike the cardstock you will need to heat set it to make it permanent. How do you do this? Just iron the fabric with the iron set at the appropriate temperature for the fabric. Once the Shimmer Paint is heat set, it will not wash off or smear.
I like sparkle and shine on my cards especially on my Christmas cards and I think Shimmer Paint give the cards and images a nice elegant touch.
