It’s high school graduation time and so using the Playful Alphabets for the stole and the cute Snailed It stamp set made this a fun card to make and another opportunity to use this stamp before it retires.
I needed to make a graduation card for my niece so I decided to make the card resemble a graduation gown with her initials on the stole. The Merry Merlot color is not one that I use often but because her school colors are maroon and white, and this was the closest match, it was the perfect time to use this color. Since I’m planning to give her a gift card, I also made the card into a gift card holder.
When I put this card together, I felt that I needed some texture on the stole, but couldn’t figure out what. But now as I’m writing this post, it just came to me that the texture that would’ve been nice is to score a diagonal line on both sides of the stole. Simple, but effective. Now that I figured it out, I guess I need to add those diagonal lines before I give it to her in a few days, or it’s going to bother me. Good thing it’s mounted on dimensionals because it makes for easier removal.
Card Details
- Merry Merlot card base was cut at 4-1/4″ x 11″ and scored at 5-1/2″
- The letters were die cut from the Playful Alphabet on white cardstock
- Stole is 4-1/4″ x 2-3/4 from top to the point. To do this, pencil lightly a dot at the bottom at 2-1/8″ (this is the middle of the 4-1/4 side), place your cutter at the 1/2″ mark and cut diagonally to the 2-1/8″ mark. Repeat on other side. Stole was adhered with dimensionals onto card base.
- The Congratulations sentiment from A Grand Kid stamp set was stamped across the Merry Merlot card base with Merry Merlot ink
- You Snailed It sentiment was stamped with Merry Merlot ink and so was the Treat Yourself sentiment on the inside of the card. The sentiment comes from the Sweet Ice Cream stamp set.
- The snail was stamped, die cut and colored with Soft Sea Foam and Rich Razzleberry stampin’ blends. The gift on the snail was cut off and replaced with the diploma.
- Vellum diploma is 1/2″ wide and about 1-1/2″ long; rolled up and tied with gold trim and adhered with a glue dot.
- The pocket for the gift card holder is 1-3/4″ x 4 white card stock adhered on both sides and bottom with tear & tape. A 1-1/2″ x 3-3/4″ layer of Merry Merlot was added on top and I die cut one of the tags from the Tailored Made Tags dies and stamped sentiment.
If you need a graduation card, this would be a great card to make personalizing it with the grad’s school colors.
