Scrapbooking Your Child’s School Years – Part 2

In yesterday’s post I listed the first steps to scrapbooking your child’s school years.

Now that you have your pictures in order you will need several supplies to help you with your scrapbooking project.  Here are essential tools you will need:

  • acid free adhesive to mount your pictures
  • acid free album – choose your size (6×6; 8×8; 8-1/2 x 11; 12×12)
  • scissors for cutting pictures
  • cardstock
  • journaling marker
  • paper trimmer

Other tools to consider that can enhance your page layouts:

  • Punches (circles, hearts, ovals, border, other shapes)
  • Stamps – for making a background for your page layouts and for decorating your pages
  • Alphabet (like the Typeset Alphabet Bigz Big Shot Die)
  • Letter Stamps for page titles (such as Morning Post, Lovely Letters, Broadsheet Alphabet, Notable Alphabet, Letter It, Number It, Simply Serif Mini Alphabet)
  • Die Cuts (you can stamp and cut out images then place in the desired spot on your page, labels, Big Shot die cuts)
  • Stampin’ Dimensionals
  • Ribbons

Here are several things you can do:

  • Make pockets for your memorabilia by taking half a sheet of cardstock and adhering it to the bottom and sides of your page cardstock in order to make the pocket. You can decorate the outside of the pocket, if desired.  Use a strong adhesive such as sticky strip tape.
  • Use border punches at the bottom, top or sides of your pages. Connect a 2 page layout with a border.
  • Write something about the picture/event  – you can journal on a tag, around the mat of the picture, or even the cardstock itself.
  • Mat your pictures by matching your cardstock with a color in the picture
  • Punch your pictures or mats in a desired shape
  • Interview your child each year and find out his favorite school subjects, teachers, etc. and include it in the scrapbook.
  • Add dimension to your page layouts
  • Create a mini album within your scrapbook

These are just some of the many things you can do.

I gave my son and daughter their pre-k through high school scrapbook when they graduated from high school.   It makes a great gift and I’m sure they’ll appreciate all the work you put into it. (not really work – is it? scrapbooking is fun!)   They can relive their special moments and years later who knows they may be looking back with their own kids!

Start creating now – it’s never too late!
