I previously published this post but have updated with the 2nd picture and where indicated.
Our watercoloring techniques continue and today’s focus is on no line watercoloring. Once again, I’m using the Happiness Abounds set because I want you to see the different looks you can get with various watercoloring techniques using the same set.
With no line watercoloring you stamp your image with a light ink. After you’re done coloring, the goal is not to see the lines or see them very faint from the stamped image.
The image on the card above was stamped full strength with Sahara Sand and you can still see the lines.
UPDATED: On this card, I stamped off with Sahara Sand and outlined some of the details for easier coloring.
When your image outline is faint, sometimes it’s hard to see when you’re coloring. To make it easier, you can pick up color and outline your image or stamp your image on scrap to refer to it. I’m still working on this technique.
How To: No Line Watercoloring
Supplies needed: Water painter, watercolor paper or shimmery cardstock, light colored ink, water
- Stamp your image with a very light color ink or stamp off once or twice with ink until outline is very light.
- Color your image with desired color using a water painter or brush.
- If it’s an image with lots of detail, outline some of the lines to make it easier to color.
- Pull color from your outline to color image by wetting your brush.
- To add more ink, wait until ink is dry between layers.
- Once you’re satisfied with the amount of ink you have, add some details to your image (if desired).
- Keep in mind that the more water you add to your ink, the lighter the color. When using less water, you’ll get a deeper color.
