Do you have a guitarist or music lover in your circle of friends and family? Then Country Livin’ is a great set to have in your collection.
For this card, I used the Wood Texture paper – LOVE. THIS. PAPER. Due to its popularity, I believe it sold out. You can still create a card with wood by using the Pinewood Plank Embossing Folder or Hardwood Background Stamp (retiring) or maybe you have some other wood looking paper. I wanted the guitars to look like they were hanging on a wood rack so I adhered it with dimensionals and used the Sliding Doors Framelits for the ‘bracket’. I die cut it in black – you can see it around the neck of the guitars. I used a white gel pen for the guitar pegs.
Father’s Day is around the corner and this card can easily be used for the occasion by changing the sentiment. I’ve heard people say that masculine cards are hard to make, but it doesn’t have to be.
When making a masculine card, take a few things into consideration . . .
- colors: use dark and neutrals rather than pastels; if you use pastels, rough and darken them with texture, sponge to darken
- texture/embellishments: embossing (powder, paste, folders), brads, buttons, anything metallic;
- image: sports, animals, instruments, nature, shapes, cars/boats/trains/planes, photography, stars, clocks, ocean, graphic, and more.
If all you have is words and no images, then make a color block card by using at least 3 different colors of cardstock over your card base and then stamp your sentiment. Now you have a quick and easy card. I would suggest staying away from ribbons, unless it’s burlap or twine. As you can see, there’s much to work with when making masculine cards.
Now go take a look through your craft collection and see what you have on hand that perhaps you didn’t think to use. Make a masculine card today and you’ll be ready for Father’s Day or another occasion that requires a masculine card.
